A few new layouts.

28 Jun

Hello friends! Wow it’s almost Friday! This week has been crazy busy and I’m excited to slow down next week and enjoy some time off with the boy. I wanted to pop in and share with you a few layouts I’ve been working on recently. I hope you enjoy! Have a good Friday!

p.s. If you guys ever have a chance to go to Top Pot doughnuts in Seattle you HAVE to go. And eat as much as you possibly can. They are life changing. If the apple fritter in the layout above doesn’t convince you I don’t know what will.

Silhouette Sunday – Map Art

24 Jun

Silhouette Sunday whoop whoop! I love my silhouette so so much. Have I told you guys that before? I actually tell it that every time I use it. And maybe give it a little kiss too. What? Is that weird?

Today I’m going to share my map art project! It was super easy with the help of my beloved machine.

Scotch 3M quick dry adhesive

Coordinating pattern papers

Pins (for marking the map when you are done)

I used my map USA cut file which cuts each state individually. I just alternated the different papers so that the different patterns would be somewhat random and more fun to look at. After the cutting was done I just applied the map to my canvas with my 3M adhesive. It’s that simple, really!

I decided to put a key on my canvas for the different colors of pins we are going to use. We are marking places where we have been together and separately. Should be fun to watch the map fill up from our travels!

Mother’s Day DIY

11 May

*Spoiler Alert* – Mom stop reading now and don’t come back to my blog until after Mother’s Day! I do have to note that this will greatly effect the traffic to my blog since my Mom is pretty much my only reader. Just kidding…I know I have about 3 others who visit. I love you 3 other readers.

Ok on to the DIY! I really enjoy the look of art and photos on canvas. I think it is a great alternative to a frame and looks nice when hung on the wall or propped up in a stand. I decided it would be fun to whip up a small canvas for my Mom for Mother’s Day. I wanted something meaningful but a little more sophisticated. I guess my hand prints just won’t do the trick…too old?

I chose a 5×5 canvas because I thought it could go anywhere. Perfect size for a table top or would look great hanging in some sort of grouping on the wall. I picked the grey chevron well because it’s chevron. Duh.  I chose that quote because it is so special to us. Of course I have read the children’s book that it’s from, but I mostly remember my Mom just saying that to me. Or singing it when I was young. Even still when I’m having one of those days she will sometimes reply to all of my complaints and grumpiness with those words.

It is extremely easy to put together. I just cut my paper to size, dry brushed a little acrylic paint to the canvas and applied the chevron then the quote. The glue I use for applying anything to canvas is my 3M Scotch quick-dry adhesive. It is great for these kinds of projects. I have used it when applying a photo to a canvas and it didn’t damage or effect the photo quality at all.

I think this would look fabulous in a nursery or children’s bedroom. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy your weekend!

Spring Peeps Wreath

28 Mar

Have I told you guys how crafty my Mom is? She is so crafty. I can thank her for my love of hot glue guns, spray paint and all things thrifty. She made a darling wreath for her classroom that I just had to share.

A wreath form (she recycled a Mr. Goodcents sub tray for hers)

Hot glue gun

Easter grass

She cut her sub tray so that it had a hole in the middle. Then she hot glued her peeps in a cute pattern onto the tray and filled in the grass as needed. So cute, thrifty and affordable!

I absolutely love it and I’m sure her students do too. Way to go Mom! Thanks for sharing with us.

Silhouette Sunday – Gift Basket

25 Mar

Hello friends!

I have decided that I will continue doing Silhouette Sunday but maybe not as often. I have been skipping a few Sundays here and there and will probably keep doing it that way. This way if my Sunday is filled with laundry and movies…I won’t feel so guilty. It’s supposed to be fun, right?

Today I’m going to share with you a super cute gift idea. I used my baby (my silhouette..) to make all sorts of adorable gift tags which made this a really personal and thoughtful gift. The best part is..it’s really fun to put together!

I love buying gifts for my guy but he is so tough to shop for. I needed something small but thoughtful and immediately I thought gift basket! I don’t care who you are, you love getting a gift basket. So I filled it with all of his favorite snacks and added perfectly dorky sayings. I think the tags really spruce it up and it was so easy to make them using my silhouette.

He loved it!

Have a wonderful week…oh and Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
